Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Dance at Le moulin de la Galette (1876)
Today’s ekphrastic prompt is via an artwork by Renoir that depicts a typical Sunday afternoon at Moulin de la Galette in the district of Montmartre in Paris. Moulin de la Galette is a windmill owned by the Debray family used for producing flour. The family made a pancake bread called galette which was popular with the Parisians in the late 19th century. Renoir had set up a studio in a garden near the mill. I like that Impressionism captured a moment in real life, in this case, in the life of Renoir and his friends who had gathered at this place.
