Story Prompts for Red Wolf Journal Chapter 3

Hey everyone,

Every time I reach the sixth prompt in a chapter, I’ll be jumping up and down. It means I’ll be starting a new blog post of another six prompts. Maybe no one’s paying attention. I’m talking to a brick wall. It means no one’s listening. Well if you are, don’t forget to write and submit to the Red Wolf Journal. The idea is to get you to write poems for submission. Deadline for the Summer 2015 issue is 19 July 2015 so you don’t have a hell of a lot of time. I’d love to get your submissions.

Prompt 13: I was reading on Wiki about Elizabeth Taylor’s legacy and got this bit about what Camille Paglia said about her screen magic: “An electric, erotic charge vibrates the space between her face and the lens. It is an extrasensory, pagan phenomenon.” The electric charge meant she’s a forerunner of other screen sirens to come being the first to remove her clothes onscreen (In A Place in the Sun) at age 17. She was one of the first Lolitas. I have not watched that movie, but imagine she’s a bit like Brooke Shields in the 80s movie, The Blue Lagoon. So the prompt is to write about Lolitas of the world.

Prompt 14: So same sex marriage is ruled legit by US Supreme Court. The White House lit up in rainbow glory. I don’t know about you, but I’ve met transgender/gay people all my life and they seem totally human to me. They’re people with every right to love as they know it. I know that it is a difficult thing for religionists to accept. Religion is difficult. Love, as we all know, is difficult. People are hugely complicated. The prompt, my fellow human beings, is to write about #love wins.

Prompt 15: In which I wrote about a boat trip. If you decide to write, then you’re deciding to go somewhere. And if you didn’t know by now, poems are not strictly autobiographical. They’re just surreal things. So the prompt is to write a poem in which a boat and the constellations are featured.

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”–Oscar Wilde

Or be inspired by this:

“Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.”

Prompt 16: I shall be wicked and suggest that you write about black holes. Or anything scientific. Or anything ballet. Or anything death. Or just you know, the Theory of Everything.

Prompt 17: I just went over to Margo Roby’s blog and she said something about free-floating in her Tuesday prompt. So I’m going to steal hers. When you free float, what do you come out with in a poem? It may be that what comes out just happens to be what you’re thinking of currently. That is excellent. Now write and submit. You’re free. You’re floating.

Prompt 18: I guess you’re feeling the mood of summer. Maddy is. She is testing the waters. Time to be up and about. Try something new. Summer is. Perhaps the stuff of romance is novelty? All the minute changes that happen when you fall in love with the world anew. So the prompt is to capture the mood of summer.
